Konark and Chilika in one arc: stone, birds and lagoon light

The Sun Temple and Chilika sit close enough to share a day, and far enough that the light matters.

Konark is best walked while the stone is still kind — early, or late, with time to look at the wheels rather than only photograph them. Guides who know the carvings make the visit longer in a good way.

Chilika changes with season: winter brings more birdlife; monsoon changes the water and the boat plan. Irrawaddy dolphins are seen on some lagoon routes, never on a guarantee. Boats, villages and bird islands should be chosen for the month you travel.

Many travellers sleep in Puri or Gopalpur and treat this as a coastal chapter, not a separate holiday. That usually feels truer to Odisha than a rushed temple-plus-lagoon sprint.
